Your interest is important to us and if you would care to follow the appropriate links below you can obtain more information about these roles and the recruitment process.

We are keen to ensure that the Police Service reflects the various communities it serves and we are keen to improve its diversity.

In effect, the more closely the Police Service reflects the people it represents the more effectively we can deliver a high quality of service to the public and improve our operational efficiency.

We welcome people from all backgrounds and in particular, West Yorkshire Police is under represented by female, black and minority ethnic officers.

Applications are particularly encouraged from these groups, but it must be stressed that selection will be made solely on merit, and in accordance with the national recruitment standards.

In order to facilitate this, West Yorkshire Police have employed a Positive Action Co-ordinator, who can be contacted on 01924 292110, in order to carry out positive action initiatives. They are primarily –

  • To conduct and support recruitment events and other recruiting activity, in partnership, with particular focus on Black and Minority ethnic people (BME).
  • To provide appropriate advice, encouragement and support to BME groups who are seeking a career within West Yorkshire Police.
  • To provide appropriate advice, encouragement and support to BME officers and staff who are already placed in the organisation.

Positive action is a range of measures which employers can lawfully take to encourage and train people from under-represented groups in order to help them overcome disadvantages in competing with other applicants.

However, selection for interviews and jobs must be based on judgements of individual’s ability to carry out the work required i.e. the best person for the job.

There are supporting organisations available to offer advice to under – represented groups and links to some of these can be found below.
